TACC Ticketing System Maintenance Friday July 1st 2022

The ticketing system, consult.tacc.utexas.edu, will be down from 12:00 noon (CDT) on Friday July 1 2022 until 8:00 PM for maintenance.

Lonestar5 scratch filesystem access ends 1July2022

The Lonestar5 /scratch filesystem has been kept available on Lonestar6 since going into production (mounted read-only on login nodes as /scratch_old) to allow all our previous Lonestar5 users to migrate their data over to the new Lonestar6. The last day to access /scratch_old will be July 1, 2022....

The Lonestar5 /scratch filesystem has been kept available on Lonestar6 since going into production (mounted read-only on login nodes as /scratch_old) to allow all our previous Lonestar5 users to migrate their data over to the new Lonestar6. The last day to access /scratch_old will be July 1, 2022. Following that the mount will be removed and the hardware supporting the filesystem will be removed from the machine room in early July, and thus no further data will be retrievable from the old Lonestar5 filesystem. Please use this final week of availability if you have and data that still needs to be migrated.

AlphaFold 2.2.0 now available on Lonestar6, Frontera, Stampede2, and Maverick

AlphaFold 2.2.0 is now deployed on Lonestar6, Frontera, Stampede2, and Maverick. The user guide has been updated and includes system-specific information https://portal.tacc.utexas.edu/software/alphafold

Lonestar6 will not be available from 8:0 0AM to 5:00 PM (CDT) on Tuesday 10 May 2022. System maintenance will be performed during this time.

During the maintenance, access to all remaining Lonestar5 resources: Login nodes, /scratch, and /home1 will be removed.

After the maintenance, data from the Lonestar5 filesystems will only be retrievable via a ticket, and only for the duration that the hardware remains in the TACC Datacenter.

The annual Big Data in Biology Summer School 2022 courses are now open for registration! The Center for Biomedical Research Support (CBRS) offers seven intensive courses that span introductions to biocomputing, Python programming, and high-throughput DNA and RNA sequencing analysis. These courses offer unique opportunities to gain and polish skills for biological data analysis across a wide spectrum of topics. 

Courses last from 4 to 5 days. Students can take multiple courses and build up data analysis skills from week to week. 

This year, some classes will be in person, some hybrid, and others completely online. UT Austin students, faculty, and staff receive a great discount off the regular course fee. 

We will cover the following topics: 
May 31 - June 3 Introduction to R for Biologists 
June 6 - June 9 Introduction to Python

Software containers are an important common currency for portable and reproducible computing. Learn best practices on building, using, and sharing Docker and Singularity containers in this hands-on workshop. Also learn how to run those containers on TACC HPC systems, including MPI and GPU aware containers.

From 2:10 to 6:30 pm CST network disruption prevented users from being able to access TACC systems. The issue has been resolved.
