Original Posting

This October, TACC is offering training on High Performance Computing (HPC) and parallel programming for Frontera on three separate days. During the first day (10/15) we focus on parallel programming with OpenMP. We provide an introduction to OpenMP in the morning and delve into advanced topics in the afternoon. On the second day (10/22) the focus shifts to MPI, again covering an introduction and some advanced topics. We also discuss hybrid computing and the interplay between OpenMP and MPI within a single code. On the last day (10/29) we will discuss Parallel I/O, HPC tools, debugging, profiling, and best practices on TACC machines time permitting.  

Each day will have a hands-on component (lab) that will be conducted on Frontera.  

This training sessions will be available to remote attendees via webcast. Dates are tentative and registration for each of the sessions will be opened on learn.tacc.utexas.edu during the second week in September.  An additional announcement will be posted at that time.

Frontera will be reserved for Texascale Days - very large scale runs of at least 4,000 nodes up to full system - to be held immediately following the system maintenance September 1 through Monday September 7. This event allows our researchers the opportunity to work on problems that may not be possible at the smaller scale. To be eligible to participate, your application must have already successfully run on at least 2,048 nodes in the Large Queue on Frontera.If you would like to participate in Texascale Days, please submit a ticket and include a brief description of the experiment you would like to run and how many nodes would be required.  If you have not yet run at 2,048 nodes and would like to request access to the large queue, include this in your request. This should include your own strong or weak scaling results from Frontera on up to 512 nodes.If you have already run in the large queue on at least 2048 nodes, you are qualified to request a Texascale reservation to try running at 4,000 nodes or more.

Users who attempt to authenticate with SMS are receiving an error authenticating. As of as of 11:25 AM (CDT) we are aware of the issue and currently investigating the issue and a solution.

Users who use the TACC token are not affected.

The issue with ticket responses in the TACC User Portal has been resolved. You may now reply to tickets via the portal as normal.

We are currently experiencing an issue regarding user responses to tickets via the TACC User Portal. If you have replied to a ticket via the TUP in the last week, we may not have seen your response. As such, those tickets have not received additional assistance. 

 

We are still working to resolve the issue with the TUP and will provide an update once it is fixed. 

 

In the meantime, please reply to your tickets via the email notification that you receive from the portal. All new tickets and all replies sent via email are reaching the ticketing system without issue. 

 

This problem affects only the TACC User Portal and NOT the XSEDE User Portal.

The CMS datacenter experienced a voltage sag power event due to a thunderstorm earlier this morning at about 6:30 AM CDT. Ranch is currently down for filesystem checks and will be back up around 3:00 PM CDT.

Access to all TACC systems will be unavailable on 14 Jun 2020 from 10:00 AM CDT until 2:00 PM CDT.  This is to allow for upgrades to the TACC core network hardware. Jobs will continue to run, but users will have no access to TACC services and systems until the upgrade is complete. Please submit any...

The Frontera maintenance for Tuesday 2 June 2020 has been extended. Filesystem checks on Frontera's /scratch1 filesystem are taking longer than expected. TACC will update when the maintenance is complete.

The /scratch1 filesystem recovery has completed and all of the compute queues are now open for normal production.

Please submit a consulting ticket if you continue to see errors or problems with any files in the /scratch1 filesystem.

For now, the compute queues have been closed and the target has been deactivated on the login nodes to prevent hangs when trying to use the filesystem, but users will get errors if they attempt to access files residing on the offline target. If the repair will take more than a few hours, we will deactivate the target on the compute nodes and re-open the queues, however, jobs will fail if they try to access a file on that target. New files can be created on the other storage targets for /scratch1 without any errors.

The offline storage target for the /scratch1 filesystem has been restored and activated on all logins and compute nodes. The Frontera queues have been reopened and the system back in normal operation again.
